I’ve been a fan of Andrew Demko for years and of his AD 15 model since I first held one in my hand. However, I never understood (or liked) the overly aggressive G10 scales that came standard on the Cold Steel models. As much as I loved the knife, the pocket-destroying scales kept me from carrying it. Believe me, I tried but it was just too much of a hassle to wrestle it in and out of my pocket and feel it shred the fabric while I did it. Also, there were other knives in my collection with better action and more of that all-important fidget factor. So, into the storage case it went…until I received the Original Goat full Ti scales with the Skiff bearing upgrade.
I can say with absolute conviction that these scales have elevated this knife to a completely different level. Honestly, I have trouble finding words to describe what this upgrade did for the Cold Steel AD15. It is literally night and day. The feeling of power and solidity these scales give to the already tank-like knife brings a smile to my face every time I hold it. We all know that no knife is indestructible, but these scales sure make you feel like it is. Add to that the perfect fit and finish and the smooth, guillotine-like action the Skiff bearings provide, and you suddenly have a beautiful, custom-feeling knife with a fidget factor that is off the scales. This O.G. modified AD15 is now one of the crown jewels in my collection and I carry it every day. Yes, it’s heavy and chunky in my pocket…and I LOVE it!
I cannot recommend these scales enough. They are worth every penny. It takes a while to receive them because of the pre-order process but it is absolutely worth the wait.
One final thought…as much as I would love to have a Demko custom AD15, they are stupidly expensive if you can even find one in the first place. Plus, I would almost be afraid to carry and use it. What if I messed up the blade somehow? Good luck finding a replacement. But with the OG Ti scales, I get that custom look and feel with a blade I can replace for around $120 (at the time of this writing) from any knife dealer online! It’s the best of both worlds!
